Mathematics Based Projects
Introduction by Francis Glassborow
Mathematics covers a very large area and once you get over the phobia so often created by poor quality teaching (often from people who have no feel for or understanding of the subject) it can be an extremely rewarding area to explore. Computers have massively extended the potential for ordinary people to explore small areas of mathematics. These are often far from the topics that are taught in schools and colleges.
There are literally hundreds of different areas of mathematics. Many of them are well suited to programming projects. A surprising number are, at their introductory levels, well suited to people with relatively little previous skill at mathematics.
Because of the range of possible projects, I have divided them into categories. When people such as yourself contribute new projects that do not fit any of the categories on the left I will add new ones.
