There is an extraordinary wealth of potential projects based on a wide variety of board and table games. However you should avoid emulating commercial games such as Scrabble or Monopoly as the owners of the Intelectual Property Rights on such products get very angry about such emulations and can take legal action for damages.
Note that many games are an opportunity to provide support tools such as electronic boards that will allow people to play against each other over networks.
