Card Based Projects
Introduction by Francis Glassborow
This section focuses on uses of a simple 52-card pack of playing cards. There are many extras that could be added such as support for specialist packs, games played with multiple packs etc.
There are an immense number of traditional games that languish unplayed because it is so difficult for an enthusiast to find an opponent. Internet card play provides an opportunity for such games to be revived because it only requires a small group that may be distributed across the world for a game to once more give pleasure and entertain.
I have no tdoubt that one of the contributions students of programming can make to the wider community is to add facilities for an increasing number of traditional games. The ambitious can try to write programs that will play the game, but providing a program that will provide for electronic play between human beings is usually easier while still being a great contribution.
