Algebra Based Projects
Introduction by Francis Glassborow
Many people find algebra with all its abstractions and manipulation of symbols far too arcane. Programmers should either already be less terrified by symbolic abstractions or need to become more comfortable with them.
The raw computational power of modern computers has a substantial impact on the way that algebra can be approached. Fifty years ago there was a real motivation for solving equations by direct methods but today approximations and graphical methods have become much more important as the tedious arithmetic required by such methods is no longer a human problem.
